DIY fruit and vegetable cleaner
Waxy Apples! As my 5 year-old would say...EWWWWIE!
I was racing through the produce section at Safeway the other day, when some shiny red Honey Crisp apples carefully arranged caught my eye. They looked pretty...but then I got to thinking...
I found it strange was that they seemed to be really waxy, like extra waxy. I wonder what pesticides and chemicals have been sprayed on these apples? I decided to pass on buying them for the fear of loading my kids up with harmful junk. As I thought more about it, the next time I buy fruits and vegetables, I would either make or buy a wash.
Here's how you would clean fruits and vegetables the natural way.
To make your own fruit and vegetable soak or spray you will need:
-Spray bottle (be sure to label it with a Sharpie)
-Vinegar
-Filtered water
In the kitchen sink or wash basin mix 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar and soak your fruits and vegetables. to remove wax, pesticides and chemicals. You can also make a spray that even the kids can use-it’s safe and toxic-free! It's REALLY that easy!
